This movie had some really good things about it, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it.
Most other serial killer movies about a specific person seem to fall flat for me. The acting is usually lame, and they water down what was actually done, making it feel like a TV movie. This one is one of the better ones I've seen. Here's what I liked about this one:
1. The actor who portrayed Dahmer did a fine job.
2. The movie did a good job of making me feel disturbed (which, isn't that why anyone would choose to watch a film like this?)
3. The editing was subtle to where I cringed at many scenes but they actually don't show much. I think it takes some skill to make the audience engaged without using copious gore (which I'm not necessarily against), but nowadays it's overdone.
4. I learned some new things about Dahmer's "practices" that I did not already know (I actually felt compelled to research Dahmer more fully after the movie was over to see where the references in the movie came from). All I remembered previously was he killed and decapitated men, but it was so much more than that...
5. The overall sense of the movie left me in a state of mind to where I can imagine Dahmer's emotions as well. The movie eerily almost makes him relatable in a way...which is disturbing in and of itself.
I definitely don't feel I wasted my time watching it.
