"Voyager" is cool, existential, kind of "beat", directed in a graceful and somewhat minimalist style. Sam Shepard carries the film, as always, with beautiful performances by the two supporting actresses. His soliloquy, which brackets the film, is reminiscent of Pablo Neruda ... Shepard's performance is not as nuanced here as it was in "Frances", but that may be due to the less emotional musical soundtrack rather than Sam's acting. He comes off as somewhat chilly through most of the film, making him a less accessable and sympathetic character than Frances' would be savior Harry. I wouldn't say a waste of his talent, but he isn't at his charismatic best. He's still irresistable to watch and as gorgeous as ever, and I'm still in love with him. Not a five star film, but a solid four for script, acting, direction and cinematography.
