Kind of absurd his guide tried to claim that there's no word for hangover in Russian. When there is a cultural need for a thing its only natural for it do be described by a single word. There's a few, "Poxm'elye" being the most common.
I'm not a big fan of 20 something Russians doing their hardest to act American by cursing as much as they can in a foreign language (grates on my ears quite a bit) and claiming that Russian traditions were invented by Hollywood, and that as a matter of fact they are exactly like us. Why?
I lived in Russia, and I can pretty much verify that the Weinstein brothers didn't event any of that. The older generation still occasionally dances like that but of course its not the "only" form of dance you'll find, and yeah its kinda rude to pour for yourself in company, of course as a foreigner no one would even notice that you broke the social norm.
Although the cap thing was out of left field, never even heard of that one.
I liked all the older folks who didn't speak English a lot more, they said some funny stuff.
When he was saying "We can't understand each other and that's just fine" the guy answered "and how!/and then some!" jokingly agreeing with something he didn't understand, it was pretty ironic and funny.
The guy with one leg seemed like a nice chap too, very polite. Better drinking buddy than the squatters in central Moscow, in my opinion.
