Though this 1937 song and dance film plot was typically droll, grade B flick actually as so many of them were, it nonetheless delivers just to watch Cagney act & dance. He is such a talented performer and always engaging to watch. Miss Evelyn's voice was a bit over the top though for a lounge supper club singer--rolling those "r"s--but she made a cute wife for Cagney and did a believable performance. It amazes me how Hollywood could find so many short actors to perform along side him so as not to over-tower the short man that Cagney was--not as short as Mickey Rooney, but nonetheless a challenge to find leading ladies for. I understand they would often have these men stand on a platform for close-up scenes. And William Frawley before he took on the role of Fred in I Love Lucy is a marvelous character actor alongside the great Cagney. Love the old B&W flicks! Thanks hulu!

James Cagney always great, I do not recall a movie that he was in that he gave a poor performance in.Evelyn Daw, grounds Cagney character. William Frawley, outstanding performance.

This is why he was such a great talent...not "I'm not so tough" !", but "Time to sing!" He could do both, and very, very well...his best musical, story of George M Cohan came out in early 40's and his best gangster, "Public Enemy" in 1931
