Scoot, you're being obnoxious. Jim Butcher LIKED Bob as a ghost. Go to his own forum archives and check out his statement about it in the TV show section. HE felt it worked better. The ghost version of Bob has fan clubs. Skull... doesn't. Also as for the Beetle WHY Is that such a big deal? The reason Harry drives a Beetle is because it doesn't use very many modern accouterments. The same can be said of an old Jeep. You're being petty. And don't say 'no wonder it was canceled.' The show had high ratings. Even book fans liked it. I read the books. I did like it. Harry's lab being a bootlegger's hidden room fit better for Chicago and if you watch Storm Front that episode did use a basement lab. Yes, the director read the books. You're unrealistic and don't consider things like issues with uninions, test audiences, non-book fans, TV executives, and copyright issues. That's why White Council became High Council and Murphy's first name was changed. There was a real Karin Murphy on the Chicago PD. They couldn't step on her toes. White Council is still owned by the Tolkien estate, they couldn't use it. The show wasn't canceled because fo bad reactions. If you CAN really read, do some research. This show was the third highest rated on the Scifi Channel for all of 2007, The show's head writer (Robert Hewitt Wolfe) used to post on Jim Butcher's own forum. He certainly did read the books and respect the author. Jim Butcher, himself, appeared in an episode. Even to this day the DVD set still gets on amazon's highest selling Scifi DVD list. The petition to have the show brought back has over 16,000 signatures. No one can figure out why it was not renewed. There was no real reason given. It had high ratings. Ironically a Skinwalker is the main antagonist in the Dresden Files novel, Turn Coat. Until then people complained how the skinwalker doesn't fit in the world of the books and therefor was a loosey villain on the show. Notice how those complaints have abruptly disappeared.   See 11 other replies

Oh, for crying out loud, Scoot, get over it! Stop being so superficial. It is NOT a major plot point in the books that she be a blonde, you fanatical purist. She auditioned for Susan (having read the books first) but they asked her to read for Murphy and she got the character accurately. She's Latino. You really want a blonde Latino just to match an off-handed book description? GET OVER IT! Valarie got nominated for an Alma award for her portrayal of Murphy. And technically thanks to Boone and a certain dragon she's actually played three characters on this show and did an an excellent job. To be honest I'd rather someone who can get the personality right than someone who matches something as shallow and petty as a HAIR description. Harry Dresden lists himself as a wizard in the phone book to draw attention as a PI but he doesn't think any 'normal' people would really believe it anyway. It's sort of tongue in cheek, like Anne Rice's rock star vampire Lestat. He doesn't think his normal audience would believe he's a vampire.
