I enjoyed this movie, sadly I hate that any war has gone on. I like that it showed another side, I had never known existed, the neutrality of the Irish and their camp for those at war. It was refreshing to see that they were treated with civility and how afterall, they were all human beings fighting each for their cause. If true to fact, the Irish allowed them some humanity and liberties given. Lastly, some people commenting, in some cases can't just watch and enjoy it for what it is, entertainment, not a forum to play politics; I understand that some feel frustration over the fact that war may have been part of their life and the memories may be too much. Worth watching.

It's odd … usually when I watch films that are based on actual events/places, I'll seek out additional information to see how close the films are to their historical bases and it makes me enjoy the films all the more.

In this case, however, I'm now left with a disappointed feeling. Not disappointed in the film but rather in Ireland's decision to remain "neutral" throughout the war (though history shows they voiced and demonstrated more supportive ideas for Hitler than for our allies.)

Still, this film was well done and, except for those people looking to see scenes of atrocities and down-in-the-dirt combat that's generally found in war films, The Brylcreem Boys is a film that will keep you entertained, start to finish.

As for the amount of time, probably, but there's a distinctively vast difference in the way Hitler showed his "respect" for nations that did not "politically agree" with him than did/does America. See 1 other reply

I wonder how long Hitler would have considered Ireland's neutrality had the war gone differently? 'Bout as long as America respects the sovereignty of other nations who do not politically agree.

There was a bit too much romance for me in the movie and I found the war story part a bit slow moving and thin. I've seen tons of WWII movies and there was nothing really new for me here (people on opposite sides find themselves in a situation where they must get along and find out they are not that different and actually like each other). The acting was excellent and most characters were rich. I found the start of the movie a bit slow but it held my attention until the end, which was really good even though it was a bit predictable. This movie is worth watching for the Irish dancing alone (and Gabriel Byrne's performance!)...much better dancing than the guy that had the popular show some years ago......
