Great episode, nice to see both sides being open-minded, I'm a firearms enthusiast myself, and *NONE* of my firearms have ever been used in anger, they have *NEVER* been raised against another human in anger or in defense, and thank Og I have never had to use my firearms defensively, I hope I never have to
If guns are "killing machines" as Pia believes, then all of my guns must be *defective* as not a single one has "killed" anything other than paper or clay targets....
I do think the gun enthusiast here made one glaring error, when introducing Pia to firearms, he has her use a 12-gauge Over/Under shotgun as her *FIRST* firearm experience?!?, give a nervous, timid person who is mortally terrified of guns one of the *harder* recoiling weapons with a loud report? big mistake
Had I been introducing her to sport shooting, I would have started her off with a .22 caliber rifle and handgun, first cartridges would be quiet, no-recoil CB Long primer-only cartridges, no gunpowder, the bullet is fired by the primer only, the sound of a CB Long firing is quieter than clapping your hands, once she got comfortable with CB's, I'd step her up to .22 Short (slightly more powerful than CB's) and finally to .22 Long Rifle (the standard .22 round)
.22's are quiet, and have almost no recoil, and are a great introduction to the shooting sports, once she was comfortable with operating the .22's, she'd be slowly stepped up to more powerful calibers, only *if* she felt she was ready
a decent progression for training a novice would be;
.22 CB Long > .22 Short > .22 Long Rifle > .38 Special/9mm > .223 > .30-30 > .45ACP > .357 Magnum > 12-gauge > .30-06
the last three (.357 Magnum 12-GA , .30-06) would only be *IF* she felt she was ready, no pressure, these are loud, hard-recoiling weapons that are quite intimidating for a novice
giving a novice shooter a 12-gauge for their first firearm experience is quite negligent, especially if she had a valid reason for disliking firearms
