Wow, I heard krauts that turned red after the war got up graded but, from a Luftwaffle Sgt to the Russian Chairman that's a hell of an advance. He (Doohan) suffered from the accent -which was fake- the rest of his career and regreted ever accepting the part, never heard if his mood changed after the movies made ST into a mega hit. This end is like Tim Allen's Galaxy Quest.

I didn't recogonize them 'till reading the end credits, but the President's aide was played by James Doohan (Scotty from Star Trek) and the Soviet Chairman was played by John Banner (Sgt. Schultz from Hogan's Heroes).

Is that how the retail chain got its name?!
Though the overall story pales somewhat in comparison to the fantasmagoria the Seaview would encounter in subsequent seasons, I liked this one. It had some real nailbiting drama -- I especially liked the brief sublot with the seaman worried about his family in San Fran. It didn't seem as silly, somewhow, as facing off with giant, amphibious, demented oceanographers or murderous puppets, though there's pleasure to be had in those kinds of stories too. It should be noted that Michael Ansara was in the original movie, as well, playing a baddie. He was Mr. Jeannie in real life.

a great show, and you can clearly see this show as a less campy Star Trek - notice similarities in the ships, the opening sequuence and the characters.
here are some oddities in episodes 8 and 9 -
they don't pay for the beer at the bar? they either leave the female guest with the tab, or dine and dash....so, why did the barman serve them again the next day?
also, the Admiral smokes in the common area of the sub-
they find a school of giant hungry catfish (the size of city buses) and then they decide to leave the sub and go swiming to see what else is around? who volunteers for a mission like that?
someone did not know the difference between an ICBM and a satelite?
the Admiral himself disarms a nuke warhead with less than a minute to spare - i guess everybody else was busy?honestly - this is a great TV show. they don't make them like this an more.
