I love it when old movies like this make you totally forget that its shot in black and white. This is one of those films that you become lost in... loved it.

Your comment reveals a thing or two about your attitude to cinema. This is a wonderful picture and a worthy addition to Borzage's exquisite love poetry. Whatever may be lacking in picture quality is soon forgotten as the narrative unfolds - and before ten minutes has elapsed too!

This seems charming and director Borzage is one of the best, but sadly this print is unwatchable. It looks like someone shot a video of an old TV showing it - many scenes are almost completely back; video artifacts abound.

I thought Criterion Collection only put their names on quality prints. Am surprised and disappointed. I gave up after 10 min.

The cinematography and SFX are remarkably sophisticated for its day. As is the acting and dialog. The chemistry between Charles Boyer and Jean Arther couldn't be better; their relationship seems to develop naturally. The plot convolutions keep you interested and caring as to what happens next.

Simply one of the best romance movies -- ever!

The Hindenburg is mentioned as (successfully) completing a transatlantic trip, with the husband on board. This movie was released (USA) March 5, 1937 -- The Hindenburg disaster occurred on May 6, 1937. -- It never made the return flight to Europe.

This film was made in 1937, only five years after the Film Commission rules went into effect. The talent of the actors in this era are just amazing, they can make you feel just by their facial expressions alone - something completely lost in film today. What they accomplished in this film with special effects in the ship hitting an iceberg is just astounding considering this film is 75 years old.
When you watch all the big name old films like this, you realize that Hollywood of today is completely bankrupt. Lines and scenes from this film were directly lifted for making of modern sea disaster films, and it happens all the time - Hollywood never does anything new.
Great film, Hulu, thank you for offering it!
