The biggest difference between MC and HK is the audience. Even when the audience is composed of the same people, effectively the audience is different, because the audience watches the two shows for totally different reasons.Why do we watch MC? We want to see people like ourselves, who have a lot of passion, talent, and drive for cooking get mentored. We want to watch good food being prepared and we want to learn some stuff about cooking, with a little bit of drama thrown in for good measure. We want to see GR give good advice and honest opinions.Why do we watch HK? We want to see bad chefs get reamed. We want to see GR ream people.Why do we watch KN? We want to watch a Restaurant Makeover and learn things by watching other people's problems. We want to see GR help people.Why do we watch the British version of KN? Same as the American show, but with a much softer side of GR, and much less... FOX-iness.In all of these cases, GR gives us what we ask for. Which one's the real GR? Probably NOT the one on HK (no real kitchen can be run that way - you'd burn out your staff and they'd all quit, for starters). Other than that? Who knows?   See 7 other replies

Actually I've been there. It 'IS' a restaurant, with customers, with food served by the contestants you see, Ramsey's menu, standards and name. I've only known it to be open during the season however when it is open, it is an actual, functional restaurant with Ramsey's name on it. And there are 'Tons' of people that Die to get in there due his reputation and quality of food.   See 7 other replies

That's not entirely true, not all of the contestants on hell's kitchen are professional chefs. I believe, though I might be wrong, that over the course of previous seasons they have had many nonprofessional chefs including school teachers and plain old pedestrian home cooks.   See 7 other replies

I would have to agree with O Va - the biggest difference IS the contestants. The ones on MasterChef have never had any formal training so their mistakes and lack of knowledge is more excusable. Thus, Ramsey is more able to be a mentor because these home cooks need the training and tips. On the other hand, the chefs on Hell's Kitchen are professional chefs. They should know better and have all the skills to produce quality food. Most, if not all, have been to culinary school and have professional experience, so Ramsey has a higher standard for them. Why the chefs on HK seem exceptionally incompetent, however, is beyond me haha   See 7 other replies

uhhh...actually i think the biggest difference is the contestants.......the ones on hell's kitchen are IDIOTS. i can't watch more than 10 minutes of hell's kitchen. but idiots + drama = good reality tv i guess. a lot of the masterchef contestants seem like well-mannered, intelligent people i would like in real life....yes, even suzy, jennifer, and christian. the people who hate them are just sadly subjective and have nothing better to do than judge others by what they see on reality tv.   See 7 other replies
