I love those particular episodes in sitcoms where I'm bursting with laughter almost the entire time. There's nothing wrong in dealing with a serious and/or dramatic issue from time to time. However, nothing beats a good belly laugh for a good 30-minutes or so. This particular MTM episode fits the bill. It was hilarious, and probably the best episode in the entire 3rd season, in my opinion.

What is the law of averages? I watched "What is Mary Richards Really Like?" after "Put on a Happy Face," and Ted spouts the same line to the newspaper interviewer.

This is one of those quotes in the collective American memory, especially in radioland, or given before a long-winded Glory Days war story.
Now, many years later, I see it quoted at the source.

(did Ted ever use this line elsewhere?)

BTW, I heard Ted Knight interviewed @1975 on the Doctor Demento show. He even had a record out at one point. They played a snip of one song, "I'm in love with Barbara Walter." vintage Ted Knight! See 1 other reply

I agree. The first time I ever saw this show in a repeat back in the 70's, I laughed so hard at the slapstick of it. Always felt it was the funniest show of the series. You never saw Mary like this ever and ever again throughout the whole series. Even funnier than Chuckles the Clown--in my humble opinion. Just a true treasure of classic humor. See 1 other reply
