Agreed, very honest & refreshing show. I think the interconnectedness of every characters' problems demonstrates how a lot of people can experience loneliness and fear in committed relationships and deal with these real human emotions in real ways. I found Mitch to be especially able to demonstrate the subtleties of being in love and all the messy human complexities that entails. Sure the guy made some pretty big mistakes, but he also made a few personal sacrifices for Claire (like saving that awful wedding toast) before his big decision to bow out gracefully and leave room for love to grow. I wouldn't be so quick to label these characters "moral miscreants" without digging a little deeper into each characters motivations and personalities. Maybe it's just that I identify with the underdog, but I personally prefer a drama series with more depth to it, as opposed to most of the one dimensional shows being produced in the US today.
