I think this opening bit to Dilbert is spot on perfect humor for me. It highlights my frustrations with people who claim to be "rational," but are really just arrogant. I'm not anti-evolution, I'm anti-egotistic. I have no problem accepting evolution as a fact of life, but I don't want people shoving their views of reality down my throat just because I accept something. I'm tired of pretentious comedy that isn't capable of being self deprecating from time to time. This opening scene of Dilbert reminds us that just because we accepting something as true doesn't mean we have to be dogmatic and exclude the possibility of things greater than our comprehension. Because that makes them no better than the people they are mocking. You say "pragmatic" I hear "pompous." Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it doesn't exist...A great reason why this Dilbert opener works so well is that this self criticism of evolution is followed up be a reaffirmation of it not even a second later. It's brilliant humor because it's brutally honest and humble. It doesn't try to sugar coat the reality of its own faults, and I really respect that.
