Good movie. A little formulaic - childless, confirmed bachelor resists taking on the role of Father, but child steals his heart and he's transformed. Even though you see it coming from a mile away, I didn't care. It was a sweet story, the acting was superb, and the setting of Soviet ruled Czechoslovakia gave it added depth. The ending was subtle, but perfect.
Like another reviewer, I would have liked to have known what happens with the little boy. On the other hand, one of the reasons I liked the film was because it was more like real life and didn't follow the typical perfect Hollywood schmaltzy ending. Sometimes we don't have closure in real life, but our experiences shape us nonetheless.
