Gennosuke is an entry level samurai looking to advance in his clan on the back of his swordplay. One thing leads to another and he ends up on the lamb with his pal, being chased by what seems like most of the Japanese countryside. After that the movie switches gears and gets into the story of the different sets of people who are after the gold (ergo the aka title Samurai Gold Seekers). To be honest, this movie is surprisingly well made, but it just didn't do it for me. The sword fighting scenes are remarkable. The plot is overly involved for as short as it is, and it was a little tough keeping track of all the different subplots concerning the gold. It's just lacking that certain something it needed to be really good. You could do a lot worse, but I wouldn't make any special plans to see it.
