Well, maybe not. I read this book in school, so my opinion may be a little biased. I'm not sure how much of this would be lost on you if you hadn't read the book, but otherwise it was awesome. Anyway, George Firmin (Albert Finney) is a Henry Chinaski quality drunk, and the story follows him as he staggers around beautiful downtown Quauhnahuac, Mexico during the annual Day of the Dead festival. Let's just say that George has some anger issues due mainly to the separation of he and his wife, but furthered by the fact that he hates his job, the world and everybody in it, with the exception of Jack Daniels. This is one hard story to bring to the screen, but Huston does it well. In 1984 there was this and Ninja 3: The Domination (starring Lucinda Dickey), and which one was the better movie is still hotly debated in film circles today. I give Under the Volcano the win, but it's REAL close. Watch it, you'll like it.
