Ugly. Ugly. Very ugly....

This is one of those rare films that give you both sides of the rabid coin. Laura Dern's DNA was showing in this interpretation of the abortion issues. Her parents must be proud.

I laughed my ass off! This movie had everything. From the clueless paint huffing drug addict to the weirdo evangelist and his creepy kid that leads you to think there is more to that relationship then meets the eye. This movie has everything from the Jesus eaters to the Goddess worshipers. At some point you begin to realize that the clueless paint huffer is probably the most sane character in the story.
I liked it a lot.

Well, you never know what Laura Dern will do. I guess that's why it's so interesting to watch. I have no idea who wrote this, it doesn't say in the credits. But it could have been done by Vonnegut. Maybe Tom Robbins. The important thing is- get past the abortion crap, and watch the movie ALL the way through. The real message here is that YOU are not important. YOU are not special. And, people will use YOU for their own ends. As dumb as Ruths' character is, she gets a little more sober, and a whole lot smarter by the end of the film. If you watch past the credits, she is still listening to the Larry Jarvick tapes. But then, her crappy tape player eats the tape. So, it does leave the viewer making up their own mind about the ending. Twenty years ago in this country, maybe she takes the money and makes good with her life. These days, she probably just blows it on dope. Either way, keep taking those risks Ms. Dern. That's how stars are made!!
Great supporting cast with Burt and Swoosie. I've been a huge Kurtwood Smith fan since he first said "b*tches leave now!" in RoboCop.
I also love it when she sniffs the dildo! A classic little piece of American film culture.
For those of you who know, Hulu puts up a lot of indy films and documentaries that you never see mentioned anywhere else. For everyone else, try to pay a little more attention. That is, if you're not too busy watching COPS or Jerry Springer....
