This movie is reminiscent of early Marx Brothers movies like DUCK SOUP with it's effortless blending of witty dialogue, music and outrageous situations. For their first outing, the director, Richard Lester, wisely chooses to surround the Beatles with veteran British actors. Of particular note is Wilford Bramble who portrays Paul's malcontent grandad. He has no idea why these four young people are being chased all over London as they make their way to a TV studio. Another stand out is the TV director, portrayed by Victor Spinetti, whose running monologue consists of wondering why the Beatles are trying to ruin his life. All chaos ensues when they do finally make it to the studio. They play hooky, Ringo goes on the lam, and Grandpa tries to make a few extra quid selling photos on the street. Another deft stroke is having Paul's grandfather be constantly in need of rescue by the Beatles and not the other way around. Best scene: Grandpa appears center stage in an opera production.....
