...but the ending was AWFUL.

In my opinion, the ending was awful. No spoilers but the ending took a strange scary turn that didn't seem to fit the film at all.

I liked it very much from the beginning. I thought only a person experiencing their first time in that manner them selves would be able to capture such moment. I am talking about the older girls first time. As a young man I confess a would pull anything to have a pretty girl to give me her heart with the promise of eternal love, that its just the way it is, young girls can be easily manipulated if their parent don't talk to them often about important things like sex and protection...and protection of the heart. I like the acting of the girl who payed Anais, I thought she was superb. The last scene I thought it was a dream, until it took way to long to actually be a dream told on a scene when I discovered it wasn't. The ending felt a little rushed and lacked detail but may be is because I really didn't want the movie to be over that soon.
Great director I must say,great vision.

Not in the typical formulaic teenage-love, movie pattern, this film is more of an essay - an essay exploring a few very key topics including the ambivalent relationship between two very different sisters, jealousy and self-loathing. The most prominent topic of all is the study of what we'll call mental rape versus physical rape. The story portrays the mental rape that occurs when a naive, teenage girl is seduced by the promise of love and scared by the prospect of losing it. Even though she protests to these "acts of love", she is easily manipulated into situations with his hollow promises that often also serve as backhanded threats. By the very end of the film, the discussion becomes very obvious. Which of these rapes has the more painful, long-lasting effect?
