The Kurgan in the original movie had the same injury, so there is a precedent for it.

Kalas' permanent throat injury might have to do with the neck's proximity to the head, it's sort of like almost severing it, isn't it right?

It always kind of made me wonder why Kalas's throat injury was permanent, when all the immortals seem to heal instantly. Is there an episode that addresses that?
