The Reign of Terror has never been less terrifying. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously, and yet it's not funny. Percy's wife reads all her lines like she thought she'd been cast as a fairy godmother, the pimpernel's effeminate lisping gets old with haste. I was looking forward to James Mason, who I almost always like, but he was hardly in there. Basically, it's an old studio formula pic. If your favorite movie was the scarlet pimpernel, or if your standards aren't very high, you might want to watch this, but don't expect much.
