The technical side of this movie is really pretty amazing. It has the look and feel of a 50's film, I understand that this is partly due to it's having been shot with an unusually fast frame rate for this era. Another thing that is readily apparent is the way the actors seem to actually be doing their lines, which American silents definitely did not try to do. This film, and it's remake will be familiar to anyone who has read much about film making, let's just say it gets mentioned a lot. If you're a real film connoisseur and you have a bunch of film buffs as friends, you might dissect this with some discussions about framing, and the incredible sweeping motions of the camera as realized by Ozu, with his incredible mise en scene... otherwise, trying to watch this is like mainlining a box of Sominex. The whole thing is about as interesting as watching flies frub. Watch Pandora's Box instead.
