The squealing science fictionesque organ music that opens up this flick should act as a disclaimer to the viewer that this movie can in no way be taken seriously. In the opening scene the movie introduces our hero, Richard 'Reef' Halloway, and establishes several crucial facts. Firstly, his friend and shipmate Dave has a man crush on him, and secondly, that Reef is a ladies man par excellence, blessed with unbelievable sexual prowess. While none of that has anything to do with the rest of the movie, it's just nice to know. The script here doesn't do a lot, and because of that the movie is mostly driven by an incredibly over dramatic narration. The submarine sets look in no way like the inside of a sub, to the point of absurdity. Despite all that the movie does manage to remain fun, and with a running time as short as this, you don't have time to get bored with it. Also look for Sid Melton from Green Acres, he's the one who can act. Bottom line? It was foolish, it was insane... it was fantastic!
