For it's day, I must say that LIS used some pretty good looking set designs - especially the caves. The exterior shots looked very cinematic compared to the studio shots, but they still blend fairly well. Again, compared to shows like Star Trek, and other science fiction or fantasy shows , even by many of today's standards, the cave sets and much of the exteriors were magnificent. - and that includes the set designs for the miniatures as well (Jupiter 2 and Chariot miniatures, that is)

If Dr.Smith and Major West can be friends, it should prove any two people can be friends if they work hard enough at getting along together! :)
