The doctor had no idea what Angel was when he poisoned him, my guess is Angel faked the whole thing in order to find out what the doctor had planned for Melissa and then a sneak/surprise attack on the doctor who thinks he's killed him. Lizburg is right, we can't expect David Boreanaz to stop breathing. But when people strangle him he should act like it doesn't matter.
Maybe the director should have had him catch his breath during fight scenes so that it looks like he doesn't need to breath.   See 19 other replies

Okay, not having a heartbeat does not mean everything stays in one place. Their blood still moves through their veins, but it is circulation resulting from movement....Or maybe when a person becomes a vampire their digestive systems are altered so that the blood they drink is pumped straight into their veins! Lol...Seriously, there is not one drug on the planet that does only one thing! Every drug has side effects and most every tranq does more than just slow down the heart. In fact, the point in talking about his heart slowing was to inform him of how he would die. Obviously it didn't work as he is already dead... Think about a gun shot wound. It will still slow Angel down until he gets the bullet out, but it won't kill him. The tranq slowed him down/knocked him out until it got out of his system...   See 5 other replies
