What an excellent film. It certainly highlights the hard work of these two, who I am sure represent so many others in Brazil and around the world. At the same time, it brings to light the horrendous racism in this art form. Isabella is absolutely beautiful, and her body may never look like the white girls'- not because she is not fit, or she is fat; but because that is her natural body type, and it is beautiful! I was truly disgusted with those "judges" and the world that they represent. But with that said, may she continue to break barriers and to achieve everything she wishes to achieve for herself and for her family.

I thought this documentary was mostly well-done. However, I found the fact that none of the spoken English was subtitled in Portuguese to be an absolute slap in the face to any Brazilian who might like to watch a movie about their own people.

Thank you so much for the update!!! That is so great and I am so very glad to read the good news!
It's amazing that her and her family did not give up when everything told them to give up. Talk about persistence when the odds are against someone. It seems that in life more often then not persistence is not rewarded, but I'm glad that it was for Isabela. A fairytale come true for a fairytale of a story. It's nice to know versus just hope that it would happen for Isabela. Thank you.

by Carlos Acosta. It's really good.

Isabela recently realised her dream: winning her first professional contract at the prestigious São Paulo Dance Company, which she begins in January. About 140 dancers auditioned for five places. She will be the company’s only black ballet dancer.

quote from Isabella “You look at yourself in the mirror and think, ‘I’m fat. I need to lose weight, but where? Because I’m looking and I don’t have anything to lose’.” She is forthright in discussing these issues. “It’s good to show our story,” she says, “how we fought to get there.”
