I have a ton of respect for NOVA and the educational information that they continue to make accessible and entertaining. In this modern age we have learned a lot about history, and history's greatest architectural feats... HOWEVER,
Though this is a feasible method for erecting an obelisk, and though I believe we are correct in the full detail of how the MAJORITY of history's great architectural structures were built, I am a physicist, and I will readily argue that we have NO REASONABLE IDEA how the GREAT PYRAMIDS were constructed.
I have read books and watched every show available through discovery, nova, nat'l geographic, etc, and even the newest theories on how the pyramids were built are all completely unreasonable, no matter how long they claim it would've taken to build using those methods. We are wrong, and we have no idea.
Even with all of our modern technology, using any crane, rig, or machinery used to make our most elaborate buildings, we would NOT be able to re-construct a great pyramid with nearly the accuracy of the originals. That's something you wont hear every day, as every investigation of the past seems to hold it up to this "archetype" given by what we have in the present... but the great pyramids are otherworldly, and I would wager a guess that these obelisks were also built by means not understood to this day.
