I really wish the documentary channels on Hulu would update their content more often.. Nova, National Geographic etc. ...

A little disappointing science-wise, but amazing footage--especially the time lapse stuff.

This documentary was nothing short of great. NOVA did a wonderful job of capturing the experience of building, testing and sending two autonomous exploration rovers to Mars. It is hard to imagine the amount of thought, engineering, and skilled labor that went into making this whole project happen, it's just mind blowing. Keep in mind that this was all done for $820 Million (2004 dollars), less than the price of one Stealth Bomber, quoted by the USAF at $1.157 Billion in 1998 dollars. This is the kind of project that makes me feel just a little bit better about paying taxes. I highly recommend this documentary, and hope that NOVA provides us with a sequel. I would love to see what the scientists learn from their little pair of wheeled explorers. I also think they should have named them Lewis and Clark.

A cool look inside the developement of the Mars Rovers, some of the difficulties involved, and how NASA's JPL overcame them, and put the little MERs on Mars. If you enjoy documentaries on space exploration, I know I do, and haven't seen this one, I highly recommend this video to you.

Terrific documentation of the lead-up to the launch and successful landing of Spirit and Opportunity on Mars. However, despite the intense variety of systems of these devices, a large portion of the time is spent on the landing systems. It made me wonder, "was it that the Lead (?) Landing Systems Engineer was so outgoing and made for better footage? Or was there not much other story elsewhere?" I suspect there could have been more balance of coverage. But this is just nit-picking...overall terrific episode.
