Read as much as you can.
Even more curious is the caves in the cliff sides filled with small carvings and family bones not mentioned at all in this episode. Read the book titled " AKU AKU " by Thor Heyerdahl, the archeologist who visited the island in 1955. It will help you understand.

Wow I love Nova so much, and I think this topic is really interesting, but these scientists are so catty... do they really think they are so important? I'm interested in what actually happened on this island, not about their stupid arguments and criticisms of each other. Talk about egos!

Horses
Am I the only one who saw the horses? There seemed to be quite a lot of wild horsed on the island. I don't know if the horses where on the island when the natives where, but if they where then they probably utilized them.
Over all the program itself was not really that interesting. I was disappointed in the "scientists" for acting like such babies. Nothing that will make you look at the word in a new light. Thus far "E=MC 2" is my favorite NOVA. Was this review helpful?

Kind of obvious
Fun show to watch, but c'mon...with enough people carving and pulling and lifting anything is possible over such long period of time. Not sure why they spend all this time hypothesizing about "how" this was accomplished.
