(See my previous topic for reason my review appears as a "Topic" rather than a "Review")The opening credits read like a "Who's-who" of American entertainment in the 1940s; reading the names certainly raised my expectations. I was not disappointed! (I only wish the sound quality was better.)On one level this is indeed a fine piece of propaganda, but it is also a remarkable and very real snapshot of a critical moment in American cultural history when *everything* was in flux, and the world was changing forever. Fortunately, that change would ultimately be for the better, but at that moment the very fate of the free world was in serious jeopardy. This film is also a tribute to that brash generation that risked everything to bring that change about. It was made at a time that the public was in dire need of some light entertainment, and this movie fit the bill perfectly. The "story" might be simple -- but quite charming -- much like the countless romances to emerge from this dreadful war. One of which resulted in my mother meeting my father (without which I wouldn't be here!)"Must see!"
