Considering that the movie has "Kansas City" in it's title...it's notable that approx 90% of the film takes place in other cities.

Great 1950s film--wonderful criminal actors. Neville Brand so much more real than the crazy role he played in the film noir hulu offering called D.O.A. I thought Brand, VanCleef & Elam the '50s quintessential believable bad guys. And John Payne so handsome a leading man combatting being framed in a raw deal, but winds up victorious in the end & gets the girl and the loot! Couldn't believe how many cigarettes were smoked tho! Whew! Was sure different genre back then--teaching by example for all of us to drink and smoke and wear fur coats. This was a gripping good movie to watch. Thanks hulu!

Boy oh boy, I haven't seen so much bravado, arm locking and backhand bruising since... well, since never! Oh these boys go at it! No killing until their knuckles are worn down and inverted. Now that's the way men deal with each other, up close and personal.
Watch this film for the crafting of a story conveyed quickly and with a sick kind of brutally entertaining glorification of men slamming each other with wicked fists [over money]. Capitalism never had a better champion than the noir genre.

But it did keep my attention.

The no blood thing is almost laughable, and wouldn't have been so bad if they weren't sweating so much! And those horrible suits! Who wears something like that in the heat of the summer on vacation! The gangster talk made me laugh too. Oh yeah, and their swimsuits! His rode so high it looked painful to wear, and hers you could have put windmills on!

All in all, not a bad movie with lots of twists and turns. I don't feel like I wasted my time.

No message...just a great cast..interesting story with a few interesting twists...super 50's black and white film noir...let's have more of these classics from the 40's and 50's....great entertainment!!!

This film is well worth seeing. Great characters with somewhat stilted dialog, but it keeps you interested with the plot twists. The violence was what you would expect for the 1950s--no blood and pulled punches. But the characters and the plot keep it going. You won't be disappointed.

Letterbox can be dealt with, but here is an academy movie with windowbox format. Why the affectation? Sure it's closer to 1.25 than 1.43 ratio, but so was King Kong.

Great noir flick, but I don't get that part of the presentation.
