Dear Hulu Advertisers,
Please demand of Hulu that they stop diluting your expensive advertisements!
Hulu must be more careful about disenfranchising both customers AND advertisers. Hulu's decision to have multiple commercials per break and increase the frequency of breaks are both very bad decisions.
Advertisers know when Hulu is watering down their advertising by blending it with everyone else's advertising. And Internet video customers will put up with only so much advertising before they go to the plethora of pirate sites that have full versions of all shows without commercial interruption at all. People would rather do the right thing, but, unfortunately, only to a degree. You have got to keep commercial interruptions down to 30 seconds per ten minutes of show or less.
Two advertisements per break are too many!
Television shows used to be 52 minutes or more for a one hour show. Today, shows are as short as 32 minutes, but generally about 35, with all that time filled with commercials. Commercial, commercial, commercial. This helped ruin broadcast television and is the reason TiVo was invented.
In two ads per break, the second ad is invariably a Public Service Announcement or a Hulu ad and doesn't earn Hulu any money anyway.
With two ads per break on an Internet show, a customer can go do something, anything, else instead of watching your commercial. We can check email, surf the web, even run to the kitchen and get a snack. With long breaks, we don't have to watch the commercial. In a short, single, commercial, we are pretty much glued to the screen.
With long commercials, Hulu is merely dissing both advertisers and viewers.
Viewers are happy to watch a periodic short commercial and even click on them from time to time, but being inundated with them merely makes us want them to go away!
Since Hulu expanded the length of their breaks, programmers have invented tools to rip Hulu content. There are now lots of them and these tools allow people to download Hulu content in order to skip the commercials, ruining Hulu for everyone. Hulu is only shooting themselves in the head.
If Hulu is having a cash flow problem, it is better to charge more per commercial and keep breaks brief rather than increase the length and number of commercials, making each one worth less.
ADVERTISERS! Wake up! Demand from Hulu that they guarantee your expensive commercial will be seen by itself and not made worthless!
If you're a Hulu viewer please let Hulu know! Send them a feedback on the "contact us" page!
