Simon of the Desert was a brilliant depiction of a timeless idea; that satan is the constant temptation in this world. Don't look past it, this film expresses everything in a surrealist way that doesn't lack the good touch of pure cinema. If you don't get "it" then take a look around you and notice the fight between good and evil in this world. A very well illustrated piece of cinema.

I found this movie visually stunning for being in black and white. I also found the dialogue to be witty and serious. It was not confusing to someone who has thought the deep questions that most people ignore all of their lives. Simon's last temptation is to live in a sex/sin filled world, decaying from atomic flesh??? Yeah, quite interesting since this movie was made quite a few years ago. It messes with your mind, and you have to wonder, just who is the devil, satan, or Simon, who is willing to let others suffer loneliness while he himself seeks to end his loneliness with a merging of his spirit to that of God's.

When I saw that there was another movie on here with Luis Bunuel's name on it, I felt a shiver go up my spine. But when I saw the running time was only 45 minutes, I figured how bad could it hurt? If you read my review of Bunuel's 'The Exterminating Angel', you know I think that the surrealists and the absurdists are pretty much all hacks. The idea itself is kind of cool, but the output is generally hacky. Ed Woods 'Glen of Glenda' could easily stand up against most of it and be praised as a masterpiece of the form. Anyway, despite all that, this movie is a pretty fun waste of less than an hour. Plenty of goofy dialogue, a goodly helping of exposed knockers (of the genuine all-natural hecho en Mexico type) that range from hot to scary, and a swingin' rock'n'roll scene man.... groovy! I defied Luis Bunuel and had fun watching this despite his intent to bore and confuse me. Ridiculous but fun!
