I think nuclear is a great option provided that they put a lot of regulation and safety into it, and even with all the money spent on safety nuclear will still be the cheapest form of energy and it's not likely to ever run out in a million year. One gram of 2% enriched U-235 provides as much energy as a ton of coal, and those nuclear power plants are refueled like every once in a while (I think it's half of the fuel every 18 months) and in a nuclear submarine, they don't get refueled for many years. But then if coal runs out or loses favor then the miners will lose their job but that will happen eventually. The problem with alternative energy is that it's expensive (solar) or hard to generate enough energy like wind, and hydroelectric is actually bad on the environment if you think about it. They have to dam up a river or other waterway which will block water source for anyone downstream and disrupt any aquatic life that depends on going upstream to breed (like salmon).
