"Am i talented" ...No "you think maybe one day?" NO...
Is it just me or was that one of the most startling pieces of verbage in this film.
i think that had to hit any father son relationship out there in the gut.
imagine being told your not talented. and they left it open ended so you question whether he is just speaking about being a surgery or as a person.

that was a hard scene and thats why this is one of my favorite films ever.

It seems to me that Alvaro is young and hasn't navigated his own sexuality. im not sure he liked it until he felt it. I believe it was intentionally left ambiguous. i dont think it was important to 'label' or further define his sexuality as is a strong idea portrayed in this film. remember he is probably a 16 or 17 yr old teen. there is alot to figure out and from that perspective any friction is good friction. it brings up alot of questions. is the term gay good enough to describe all the variable intersex relations?
