It is interesting to actually see the training police officers go through, but I found it quite unimpressive and as a result quite boring. Much of what is being asked of the officers in training on this show seems far from hard and yet everything they do is portrayed as a character testing obstacle to over come and as a result the show comes across as histrionic. Watching this show gives me the same feeling I'd get from watching a mentally handicapped person overzealously struggle with a simple math problem which for them will be an impressive feat. For example, if you can only do say 5 push ups then how can you expect to be a police officer (at least I hope that's not an unreasonable expectation).
While I have not been in the military, I imagine what they do on this show is nothing compared to boot camp. I have however done martial arts and my instructors took a completely stupid and unnecessarily militaristic approach to belt testing that was about 7 times as intense as what's going on in this show. For example, instead of just yelling at us to make us look stupid when we made mistakes they'd also hit us. If the people on this show had to recite police information while simultaneously exercising and getting hit for their mistakes then I'd have sympathy.
