Revanche is one of the best films I've seen in ages, with so many parallel narratives presented in subtle ways keeping you glued throughout. At the surface level it watches like an thriller that's slowed down to the pace that a more patient film viewer can appreciate. With each narrative a duality is presented as the film progresses, the prostitute and the housewife, the robber and the cop, the old man and the young man, the two paths diverging in the woods. Having just watched, I'm not positive there was an overarching theme, but the chemistry between the housewife and the robber toward the end was magnetic, both seeming very interested in each other's foreign worlds. One of the most spectacular parts for me was when the camera stops at the scene of the woods and later by the bank where later scenes would unfold. The reason I liked this so much is that it gave a sense of space to the movie, instead of scene 1 over here and scene 2 over there, I felt like I understood that this was a village with spaces in between. I'm sold on Hulu plus for at least another month.
