Maybe Fellini just isn't my bag... La Dolce Vita is amazing, 8 1/2 is pretty much amazing.. Amarcord.. Allot of his stuff strikes me as nostalgic. But it's nostalgic for things that I can't (or don't want to) relate to. It's nostalgia for small-town close-knit Italian life.
I'm interested in what Fellini does in the way of religion and spirituality and sophistication. But that rural longing, that mourning for the loss of simplicity, the degradation of the soul in light of performance.. it's unimportant to me. This movie has allot of great stuff in it, and I recommend it.. but not as much as I wish I did.
