On the surface, this is a romance with Katherine Hepburn as an old maid discovering romance in Venice with a few twists and turns, however, under the superb direction of David Lean, the city of Venice actually becomes a character in the film. Exquisitely photographed, this film makes you feel as if you've actually visited the city. A great film experience.

She plays the role of a lonely, boring middle-aged woman well. I'm not that fond about this actress. She doesn't know how to catch a man, and her looks are unattractive. You could add more make-up to her face, put her in an expensive grown, and still get the same old character. I guess some women are...just...not...sexy, just an old maid.
