To be non-judgmental and forgiving does NOT mean to let the bad guys go free. We can and should apply the law and punish perps while simultaneously attempting to follow the teachings of Christ and others: hate the sin but love the sinner. One can forgive an offender without opening the prison cell and setting him free. Just as Christ cautions parents to discipline their children with love, the state and responsible citizens must also 'teach' any who commits a crime by making him serve the appropriate sentence. But while he's doing his time, we ought not to hate him nor to hold onto our anger toward him. I'm not sure whether I could forgive anyone who murdered someone I love, and I know that I couldn't forgive this particular unrepentant killer-- but then my behavior is far from Christ-like! The weird thing is that, in forgiving others, we help ourselves, and by withholding forgiveness we hurt ourselves and not the object of our anger. BTW, being non-judgmental and sending a man to prison are also not mutually exclusive. Peace.
