not really. There use is the same but their make ( when you think about it) reflects their cultures warfighting interests. Like why the Gladius was short and why Katana's were long and curved. One was short because the roman army was more interested in practicality and the Katana was made long and curved because the Japanese were interested in Defence and Offence. See 2 other replies

They look almost like Roman Gladius's. The hilt is different but the blade is about the same length and width.

I have watched most all of the episodes, since the show came out in 93', and the first episode I ever saw was "Parliament of Dreams".
The end of this particular episode brought me out of a severe depression and gave me hope for the future.

So I guess it was 1993 when the show hooked me and I have been watching it ever since. See 2 other replies
