I can see some points that you guys are making between BAB 5 and DS9. I also agree with alot of comparisons. What i am surprised is how both parties seem to be missing the fact that when the jump gate is activated that "vortex" looks exactly like the DS9 wormhole opening. Only difference is the angle in which it is viewed at. Now i believe both shows may have actually riped off of each other to an extent. But let us also keep in mind almost all sci-fi shows at this point(especially space ones) rip off each other in some form or fashion. The only exception i can think of to this rule may be 'Farscape," let me know i am wrong though please.

This may come as somthing of a shock, but the entire idea for DS9 came form the Russain occupation of Afganistan and the ensuing fight for independance, also, you may want to go back and watch both season one's again I dissagree with your claim. Also there is a small diffrence betwen a hyperspace jump point in nutral space that goes nowhere, and a wormhole to a far, far off place, in the single most contested, violent region of space in the region, that leads directly to an enemy of unimagined power. The thing is, in the 1980s, Joe Michael Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5), pitched the show to Paramount (producers of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine). He was rejected, but he never recieved his pitch materials back. You can see a lot of influence, when you consider this (Both set on a stationary city in space, right next to a long-distance travel point, Rom and Quark as compared to (season 1) Vir and Londo, Gul Dukat as compared to (season 1) G'Kar... The common belief is that the whole of DS9 season 1 was based strictly on the guide to the Babylon 5 universe, whereas afterwards, they began to move more towards plots that they wrote themselves. Delenn gets the boot from the Grey Council and was replaced by another member of the warrior caste which will more than likely cause issues down the road.
Sheridan gets captured by aliens that the Minbari have dealt with before. Just in time Sheridan escapes into an escape pod before the aliens jettisons their prisoners alive into space (very chilling sight).
In the end another General who sided with the deceased Santiago wants to restore the government from the grasp of the believed PsiCorp involvement. I'm very curious to see how this plays out.
I hope to see more of these kinds of episodes, not too much emotional crap that makes me cringe.

I think were comparing apples and ornges here, first off DS9 was constrained by Trek lore, and secound, Roddenberry was involved, dirrectly or indirectly, with the creation/ direction of both, whats next are you going to accuse Andromiada Accendent of ripping off Voyager? See 6 other replies

DS9 ripped off B5. B5 was great for its entire run while DS9 didn't get good until the Dominion was introduced. See 6 other replies
