Dohler has also inspired artists and filmmakers such as Robert Crumb (Fritz the Cat), J.J. Abrams (Creator of TV show Lost ) and Art Speigelman ( Maus ) with his underground comix character ProJunior, and his DIY filmmaking magazine, Cinemagic.

When this film is good, it's very good. The family scenes are extremely powerful and at times heartbreaking, easily the film's strength. Joe Ripple, contrary to many online reviews, comes off very well. Certainly not the villain he has been portrayed as in some circles. But the film needed more. They should have touched on the original, unfinished version of Nightbeast, done more with Don's publishing days, and shown more of the original home movie productions. But most importantly, the two idiots who kept changing hats had no business being in here. They ground the film to a halt and were highly annoying. Either way, farewell Don, and God bless.

I made my own independent film called "Sketches of Nothing by a Complete Nobody", that was just 3 years heartache....I got pangs and flashbacks watching this film...people not showing up, the people with money bailing out on me, mishap after mishap. its as fun as it is painful...Even if its unwatchable (as my film was) you at least have something to show for it.

I like low-budget Horror films, but this movie isn't about that. I mean, it IS...but it's about more than that! It's about a man who could be your neighbor, or your uncle, or an old friend, who just happens to make Horror movies for a living. It's about his successes and (more frequently) his failures, but how even his failures actually ARE his successes! Seriously, if you don't love Don Dohler by the end of this film, then you missed part of it. And if you're already a Don Dohler fan, you certainly don't need me to tell you why this movie is so great!

Admittedly I'm not very familiar with Don and had only heard of one, perhaps two of his films. First the documentary is fantastic at capturing a glimpse of the man; his passions and priorities. Secondly the film clearly shows the passion, creativity, and dare I say heart Mr Dohler poured into his early work. Well made B-movies can be quite good if they have enough heart and decent acting to draw the viewer in... Dohler's early work appeared to fit that mould. If you enjoy camp, horror, B-movies, or independent films this documentary might be for you!

Ok, I loved it. I'm a fan of low budget campy schlock movies, and this is a very well done documentary about a topic that I find fascinating. I'd never heard of Don before -- or any of his movies -- but I'm tempted to seek them out now. Personally I think Don was a lot more like Roger Corman than like Ed Wood (as other reviews suggested. Tom Savini, JJ Abrams, they're all here. In a sense, this movie reminds a bit of the Troll 2 documdentary that was released recently, but I liked this one much much more. Give this movie a shot.

I had never heard of him before watching this film, but I enjoy movies about "film making" so watched. It is about Don career making B Movies. It's interesting how he got into it, watching his process, and the reaction of critics. It's worth the view, especially for those interested in B movies and film students .
