The Civil War divides friends and destroys families, but that's nothing compared to the anarchy in the black-ruled South after the war. D.W. Griffith’s landmark classic!

"... someone had the guts to tell it how it is" - foxnews nah, that's probably something they would say, though. hey white people, the world is not coming to an end just cause you now HAVE to earn your way up now. get used to it and stop being pathetic racists. maybe have some spanish kids? probably be really attractive/healthy like me :)
Nice, "interesting" thoughts on this movie, but the true significance of this film is that it lead to a great resurgence of the KKK as a result of its anti-Union, anti-Black propaganda. My grandmother who passed away last summer at 97 years old told me that she remembered a cross burning in their front yard in Iowa in 1917 when she was four years old, a mere two years after this film was made. {My (white) great grandfather was friendly with and helped the poor black folks around town.} This was a direct result of this film and an extremely minor one, but notable that it happened in Iowa, not the South. The KKK became very popular and very powerful very quickly as a DIRECT result of this movie. How many black folks were killed and tortured because of this 3 hour bit of fiction? How many years backwards did this country remain for way too long as a result? Seems to me that discussion of the film should be EXACTLY political, as it is at the crossroads of cinema, propaganda and politics and how one powerful man's influence on media (think Murdoch) can do so much harm.
This film is defiantly interesting. Though the idea may seem bizarre to the majority of us today, back then (and unfortunately even now) some people thought(think) that a situation like the one shown in the film was(is) possible. This film defiantly is interesting and if you are secure enough in your beliefs and your stance on racism (and you don't get too excitable over the topic) I think that you should watch this to learn how some people thought(think).
Most of the great silent films had a music score written and composed just for a particular film..it would make the movie more complete if HULU or anyone else could find it
The film itself was a very interesting creation and is of great Film-logy value to all Artistic students. As for content: In a war or battle there is always at least two sides, two opinions, and of course, history is always being rewritten. When a person's home is the war's current front line of battle, rapes, robbery, arson and many other evils happen. Unfortunately we are asked to tag films, which often is nothing more than film stereotyping. Know and learn that there were good people from both the North and the South who suffered wrongfully. It is setting a double standard to mourn the one and not the other !!!! When a government tries to dominate, the people loose (other examples): WW2 (Hitler), Vietnam, the Bush/ Obama Wars. May the death of this our nation be delayed.
O.K. so it was an acheivement for it's time, great. Guttenbergs press was an achievement for it's time too; that doesn't mean I'd prefer it to a laser printer. My biggest problem was that the text stayed up way too long. Maybe people in 19- whatever were slow readers, I don't know. They didn't have t.v. so you'd think they would be good at reading right? What I do know is that this movie milked an extra hour of time by leaving the text up so long. As for the racism in the movie. I thought most people worked through these social issues on the playground in elementary school. Get over it. Find something important to care about and quit wasting your life stressing out about what dead people did to each other.
