Songs and Sounds seem to do a good job of bringing back old memories. In the beginning of this movie I thought I heard the clanking of the Giant Dipper, a classic wooden coaster on the Central coast or California. The chain that pulls the Roller Coaster must sound allot like a city sky tram, or was this dubbed over? I only ask because the Boardwalk was shown later in the film. I love how things reflect off each other, what is a beat if not followed by another. There is no silence, only variation of movement. Even memories change over time.
This Movie portrays a sense of "playing with music," instead of just playing music. I now you could just call this improvising but making your own instruments is almost more rewarding and different because its like finding out a secret, the secret sounds of the world. I love movies like this. I love banging stuff.

This documentary was really well done. I connected with this woman completely. I have been progressively losing my hearing since birth, due to being born with a birth defect that leads to tons of ear problems. I have learned that i no longer need my ears to completely understand sound, since sound isnt real, but the vibrations that interact with an organ of perception are. You can see sound, you can feel sound, you can hear sound, so sound isnt just in the ears. Its those three things combined, and when one of the sound variables lessens, the understanding of the rest increases. Hearing through the ears is just your ears FEELING the changes in air pressure.I often find myself "making noise" that i can feel and watch all the while forgetting that others can "hear" the sounds. I feel as if i no longer need my ears anymore because feeling sound is so much more beautiful.

I thought this film was very well done, with much for the viewer to think about as well as listen to. What hit me hardest about what she talked about was the idea that "We are the sound....." Just as we make music or should I say translate or transfer music through many different ways and by it take and give pleasure in doing so, I believe that God has created us for His good pleasure and our lives are lived out on this earth almost like sheets of music that He has created.. I believe that music is eternal, it was before this world was created and will be after it is gone and it is something that is beyond this world because it comes from the very heart of God Himself,....and that is why every human being is influenced by it in some way.This movie is also proof that you do not have to hear music with your ears to know music with the real you that is within your body..

I thoroughly enjoyed this feature and appreciate the reminder that the beauty of sound exists everywhere. One can easily become desensitized to the many levels of sound in which we are immersed daily. It is also rather easy to dismiss the unique beauty of sound generated from everyday events such as the sounds computer keys being pressed, the swish of pant legs while walking, the far off sounds that are peripheral to the more demanding and present ones.The film was beautifully shot and includes wonderfully engaging performances from around the world. I was especially appreciative that the sound of silence was explored along with those created by scrap metal, chop sticks, drums and more traditional instruments.Also, the exploration of sound as heard by the body as opposed to the ear alone was fascinating and well worth additional research and conversation.
