I can't believe how unconvincing Barry was in this role. Was this filmed before or after his role as Bat Masterson?

Given that, at the time, anyone who suggested that nuclear truce was a necessity would be branded a "commie"--and that, at the time, many writers had already lost their jobs for even less than that, you might be right. It might well be the writer sneaking in a little commentary on the stupidity of combat to settle disputes.

It was def one of the best episodes yet, and I know becuz it kept you guessing if they were going to shoot each other or not. You didn't know what the ending was going to be unless you were an old fart that knew clocks like that back in the day had to be balance so go fu*k urself if you think u knew tha ending becuz i was one of the best episodes Ive seen yet that kept you guessing and you know it Mr. Big Shot....Do you know all the other endings of all the other episodes because I would like to hear it!

Very tense but also very funny. Hard to laugh when you're holding your breath.
Almost a caricature of the Western genre, but still evoked a variety of emotions.
Barry, McGavin and Corby all did a good job, with Gene Barry lending a movie star image, and Western familiar face Ellen Corby doing some seriously fine acting in a very clever plot. Illustrates the power of belief to change the course of one's life, and the power of one person to change people's beliefs...even if you have to cheat a little to save lives.

I knew what she was doing the moment she did it, as did every antique clock collector of antique mechanical clocks.

The era was modern enough for everyone in 1955, however, to be sidetracked for a moment, except for grandpa and grandma who lived through the mechanical clock era and had presence of mind.

What's never discussed is the real world explanation of religious experience, with real world events at the core. It is especially gratifying for those of us who are graduates of the George Carlin Seminary School also.

But that , is another story.

Dale looked like a gay cowboy spoof. The best part of this episode was Hitchcock's dry sense of humor and seeing the father from "A Christmas Story" (thanks for that info, Theodora) however he didn't sound Irish, he sounded Jamaican..

This is probably one of my very favorite AFP episodes; there's nothing paranormal or horrific about it (other than the destructive potential of the bruised male ego), but the suspense is still absolutely killer and the three main characters' performances were absolutely outstanding. And, of course, for those of us who came to know and love Darren McGavin as the father from "A Christmas Story," it's always fun and a little mind-bending to see him play someone so utterly different.
