Apparently my response didn't post, so I'll try again. First, America didn't simply "help" and decimate the Japanese in WWII. If you've studied the history, you'll know that Japan, Germany, and Italy all declared war upon America first. In fact, Japan DID weigh the consequences prior to declaring war upon the US in WWII and was warned by Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto to avoid conflict with the US and if he was commanded to fight the US they would have at best 6 months to a year of success. He did not consider the war as a favorable position for the Japanese to take, but he was greatly opposed in Japan for his warnings and many tried to kill him for it. America may have tried to maintain a facade of isolationism, but failed once other nations declared war upon the US. The matter of Iwo Jima, you are incorrect to say that no shots were fired. The bombing of Iwo Jima did not produce the results that "fire" (napalm) bombings of Dresden (Germany) did. After 70 days of bombing, almost 3 days of naval assaults on the island - the US barely made a dent in the Japanese defenses. It was a bloody battle, with heavy losses on the side of the Americans, in fact - they barely made it at all. Thus once they did, they were instructed to raise the flag, they then put up a bigger one, and then that famous photo was taken. It's condensed, but these are the facts as historians have been able to verify from all sources. It's not interpretation. There is a difference.America wasn't "tricked" into a war. We responded, because war was brought upon us.
