I remember this cartoon coming on many school long Holiday weekends.It was such a thrill to watch it again, and to still be enchanted by it just like when I was a little girl.

i agree with Jack Fields. Leave the classics to the authors original intent and stop trying to make every thing politically correct even in 1939.

I have this VHS version at my home- I just love the contraptions and everything. One of my childhood movies. Though I could never tell if the girl's dad was really a guy or a girl- that puzzled me until recently

This film was released by Fleisher as a response to Disney and Snow White.
Disney proved with Snow White, a feature length animated film could be success and Fleisher being the #2 animation studio, decided to try and top him.
For instance Gabby the town crier (who later got his own series of shorts) was intended as a Dopey-type comic relief character (he's also voiced by Pinto Colvig who was the voices of Sleepy and Grumpy in SW) and how part of the plot involves a handsome prince and a beautiful princess falling in love.
The most Fleischer like thing about the film is that Gulliver is a rotoscoped human actor!

If you want a good adaptation of all 4 part I would suggest seeing the 1996 verison with Ted Danson! See 5 other replies

Why do people feel the need to show superiority even for a cartoon? It is just a cartoon, can you not let people enjoy that without all the excess negativity you felt the need to spout?

Haha! I loved that whole introduction. And when the little grumpy guy realized he was in a hand he shivered "a a a alls wel wel well. YIKESSS" haha! I'll keep watching! :-) I believe I watched this as a child.
