Rather than leaving for mystery and questions, rather than allowing the audience to try and piece things together, rather than spend time for flashbacks or interludes, narration takes precedence, leaving this faux-steampunk mini-series feeling stale and shallow.
Because of too much narration, the story doesn't engage the viewers, leaving them to sit idly by as sub-standard fight scenes and clipped dialog play out one after another. The premise to the story doesn't lend itself too well either, with a "princess" dethroned, running amok in forested areas with her faithful half-breed wolf and a resistance group not unlike Al Qaeda, except with hot chicks.
Shallow is an understatement, as this series lends itself to cliches' and titillating displays of female anatomy, semi-tough guys, and a poorly presented rendition of steampunk, whose only association with such a market entails goggle props and shiny, useless buckles.
Give it another go, in another lifetime.
