So, I had never seen this movie before (I was 4 in 1981), but I remember the song from the Adam Sandler movie Happy Gilmore, and I remember him talking about it in that film, so I thought I would give it a shot.
It was interesting, to say the least. And I can relate with the whole teenage love thing (who can't?), but I also grew out of that person I was when I had my first love. And it disturbs me that Jade didn't - at all - and that she was absolutely completely willing to go back to that psycho. Yes, he was her "first," but come on! He set her house on fire - with her inside - and admitted that he did it!
And the dad getting hit by the bus thing!?!?!?!? Having watched (and loved) Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, I had high hopes for this film. I was really quite disappointed. Still, it's an interesting study in obsession.
